HEALTHY OFFICE

In this design, the focus is on building physics instead of architecture. The starting point for the design was a healthy indoor environment with plenty of light and good air quality.

There is a large atrium in the middle of the building which provides enough daylight access. On the ground, first and second floor are public facilities such as a restaurant and an exhibition space. The third floor is for the mechanical equipment. Above the third floor are offices. Each office floor has two courtyards. The south facade of the offices has a double facade and the north facade insulating glass. The east and west facades are closed as much as possible, with openings where the gardens are. The hard cold glass and soft wood slats are separated by a closed recessed floor, which provide a contrast between the plinth and the offices of the building.

The building is naturally ventilated by opening windows. The used air of the offices is passed through the gardens. Where CO2 is partly taken out of the air and then disposed through the offices to the atrium. At the top of the atrium there is a heat exchanger that is connected to a heat pump which in it's turn is connected to an aquifer. The offices are heated and cooled by low temperature heating and high temperature cooling. The heating can be adjusted through the floor and cooling through the ceiling.
